An 18-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges stemming from a November incident in Lakeview Terrace in which he is accused of dragging two teenage girls underneath his car and then leaving them.

Miguel Angel Jimenez pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles County Superior Court to two felony counts of attempted murder, torture, mayhem and leaving the scene of an accident, among others, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Jimenez allegedly fought and argued with the two girls and “allegedly struck the two teens as he attempted to flee the scene,” the district attorney’s office said in a news release.

“Both girls were caught under the car and dragged, until they dislodged and were left severely injured on the road while Jimenez allegedly continued to drive away, prosecutors added,” the district attorney’s office said.

The incident took place near the intersection of Hunnewell Avenue north of Pierce Street.

Authorities said Jimenez faces life in prison if convicted of the charges and said he will return to court in late February.

His bail was held at $4.3 million.
