Classes canceled at Temple City High School after bomb threat

Classes at a San Gabriel Valley high school were called off Friday after an anonymous caller reported bombs on campus, officials said.

Though Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said no devices were found at Temple City High School, Temple City Unified School District Supt. Chelsea Kang-Smith said the decision to cancel classes was made out of an abundance of caution.

District officials wanted to “make sure our sheriffs, our law enforcement officers [were] able to thoroughly search” the school, Kang-Smith said.

“We want to make sure the safety of our students and our staff comes first,” she added. “It is always our belief that safety is that important.”

The call came into the sheriff’s Temple station desk about 6:40 a.m., officials said. Deputies cleared the campus, and the district canceled classes and other activities for the day.

Dogs and a helicopter were brought in to assist with the search, which prompted street closures in the area. About 10:15 a.m., sheriff’s officials announced via Twitter that after a “foot by foot search” no devices were found.

An investigation into the threat was ongoing.

On Wednesday, a Temple City elementary school was shut down after an anonymous caller reported two bombs on campus. Deputies cleared and searched Longden Elementary, but said no devices were found.
