Woman wounded in third southeast L.A. drive-by shooting of the night
A woman was shot in the back in Thursday night’s third drive-by shooting in southeast Los Angeles, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 7:10 p.m. in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood, about an hour after two gang-related drive-by shootings in the nearby community of Watts, said Sgt. Scott Stevens of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The woman was standing near a group of suspected gang members at Wall Street and East 87th Place when a white Chrysler 300 series drove up to the intersection. A person got out of the car and fired six shots in the group’s direction, striking the woman in the back.
No words were exchanged, Stevens said, according to a witness.
“He just blasted, got back in the car and drove away,” Stevens said.
The woman, who police estimate is in her 30s, was taken to a hospital in stable condition. There were no other victims, Stevens said.
Police do not believe the victim has any gang ties, but the crime is being investigated as a gang-related incident, Stevens said.
“Wrong place, wrong time,” he said.
The first two gang-related shootings involved different gangs than the third shooting, Stevens said. Authorities do not believe they are related.
