Traffic squeezed after semi spills oranges onto San Diego County road

Share

A narrow mountain pass in northern San Diego County was blanketed with oranges Tuesday after a truck’s trailer tipped over and knocked over dozens of bins of the citrus.

California Highway Patrol received a call about 8:50 a.m. reporting the tossed fruit along Pala-Temecula Road near Oak Hills Lane in Pala, said Officer Mary Bailey.

Aerial footage of the scene showed the semi blocking the roadway at a sharp curve in the road, next to a splash of bright orange on the roadway.

Traffic was squeezed on both sides of the two-lane road, with closures affecting a 6-mile section of Pala-Temecula Road.

As of 1:45 p.m., Bailey said, the road would likely be closed for at least another hour as Caltrans crews concentrate on clearing the jam.

No injuries were reported, Bailey said.
