Two men found dead Sunday morning in a car that plunged more than 700 feet off a mountain road in the Angeles National Forest have been identified, authorities said.

The driver was identified as 22-year-old Sergio O. Partida, the passenger, 21-year-old Andrew S. Barrios, both of Ontario, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Their car was spotted after a motorist on Glendora Ridge Road noticed skid marks about five miles west of Mt. Baldy around 8:03 a.m., CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

First responders soon found the car about 720 feet below the road, Kimball said. It was unclear when the accident occurred.

Partida and Barrios were the only two occupants of the 2002 Acura when, “for reasons still under investigation,” Barrios lost control while negotiating a left curve, the CHP said.

The car went through a dirt turnout and down the embankment, overturning several times, according to the CHP. Although the men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, both were ejected from the vehicle.
