The men were on probation and had outstanding warrants when they were arrested early Monday with unprocessed mail, opened mail, checks and burglary tools inside their vehicle, according to the Fontana Police Department.

They were arrested after an officer spotted a “suspicious vehicle” by a field next to a U.S. post office in the 16000 block of Santa Ana Avenue in Fontana, police officials said in a statement.

Police said the officer made eye contact with the driver, who sped away and ran a red light before he stopped the vehicle.

One victim has contacted police and said that her stolen check was dropped off at the Fontana post office on Santa Ana Avenue. Anyone who believes that their mail was stolen is asked to contact investigators at (909) 350-7720.
