Two women have been arrested in connection with the beating death of a 65-year-old man on a Metro Blue Line train platform in June, authorities said Wednesday.

Virginia Butler, 23, was arrested Wednesday at her home in Los Angeles and is being held in lieu of $1-million bail, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

On Sunday, detectives also arrested Tracy Gomez, 24, of Hawthorne on suspicion of killing John Whitmore, authorities said.

Detectives had been looking for the pair after Whitmore died of his injuries at Saint Francis Medical Center six days after he was beaten at the Willowbrook-Rosa Parks Metro platform at 1:20 p.m. on June 13.

Authorities say the women approached Whitmore as he was standing on the platform and began kicking him and hitting him with their fists until he fell to the ground.

After beating him, authorities say the women ran away.

Gomez is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in the Los Angeles Superior Court in Compton. Butler is to be arraigned Friday at the same court.
