UCLA police are searching for a man who sexually battered a student in Westwood outside the Palomar Hotel.

The attack occurred around 9 p.m. Sunday outside the hotel at 10740 Wilshire Blvd., according to a statement from the UCLA Police Department.

The female student was talking on her cellphone and walking in front of the hotel when a man approached her from behind and forcefully grabbed her, police said. The victim told authorities she turned around and saw the man running toward a newer model, silver sedan parked on Selby Avenue.

Authorities released a description of the man Monday to UCLA students.

The assailant is described as a white man with dirty blond or brown spiked hair. He was last seen wearing a blue or purple long-sleeved dress shirt with white vertical stripes and khaki pants. The man is between 30 and 40 years old and at least 5 feet, 11 inches tall.

The assault is the second such incident to occur in the area.

In late January, a woman told UCLA police that she was dancing at a party in the 600 block of Landfair Avenue when a man hugged and grabbed her. She told police she left the party immediately after the incident.

Police said the assailant in that attack was described as a white male with brown hair and 5 feet, and 7 inches tall.

UCLA police are trying to determine if the cases are related.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact UCLA Detective Division at (310) 825-1491.
