The Vincent Thomas Bridge will be closed Labor Day from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a marathon and half-marathon, a Caltrans spokeswoman said Sunday.

All ramps as well as the entire bridge from San Pedro to Long Beach will be closed for the race, during which 4,000 runners are expected to cross the span twice. Caltrans is not setting up detours, and drivers are advised to find alternate routes.

Most of the morning traffic will be trucks and other port business, the spokeswoman said. Part of the proceeds of the race, called Conquer the Bridge, will go to the Los Angeles Police Department’s harbor division cadet program.
