July 4 weekend forecast: Heat in the valleys, relief at the coast
Fourth of July revelers can plan for a typical L.A. summer holiday weekend starting Friday: Heat in the valleys and inland areas, cool relief closer to the coast under sunny skies, forecasters say.
“It’s going to be a really nice weekend,” said Stuart Seto, a specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Temperatures will hover between the mid-80s and 90s in the valleys and reach 80 downtown during the holiday weekend, he said. At the coast, early morning clouds and fog are expected to taper off by midafternoon, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
Advisories, however, have been issued for small boats and surfers, warning of strong, dangerous rip currents. Surf could reach up to 6 feet, Seto said. He advised surfers and swimmers to stay near an occupied lifeguard post.
Those who do get caught in a rip current should swim parallel to the shore to get out of it, Seto added.
As for those fireworks displays, Seto said there should be good visibility Friday night despite some cloud coverage.
