Two women found fatally shot inside car in Riverside; suspect in custody

Police officers responding to call about a potential disturbance Wednesday morning in Riverside found two women fatally shot inside their car and a suspect still at the scene.

Shortly after midnight, police received a call from a woman who said her brother may have shot somebody, Riverside Police Department spokesman Ryan Railsback said.

When officers arrived in the 6000 block of Alhambra Avenue they contacted the caller, who was with her brother.

Railsback said officers detained the man as a suspect and found a firearm on him. Afterward the suspect led officers to the victims.

“We think that they might have been shot at that location where the car was found,” Railsback said.

The suspect, in his mid-to-late 20s, was taken into custody and is being questioned by investigators.

Railsback said the young women are not related to the suspect and that detectives are still trying to figure out a possible motive.

“It’s pretty unusual to have a double homicide like this, especially in this quiet, older neighborhood,” Railsback said. “We are fortunate the family member called us.”
