Street racing at speeds of more than 100 mph and alcohol may have led to a Woodland Hills accident that left at least four people hospitalized with injuries, authorities said.
Officer Matthew Gale of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division said the accident involved a vehicle traveling eastbound on Ventura Boulevard at a high rate of speed that collided with a westbound vehicle making a left turn onto Oakdale Avenue.
The driver of the eastbound car, a male in his mid-20s, was in custody Friday after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Gale said. Witnesses told police the suspect’s vehicle was traveling at more than 100 mph, he added. The man's name was not released.
Four people suffered “significant injuries,” according to Gale. Two of the injured were in the suspect’s vehicle and the other two were in the vehicle making the turn, Gale said.
No additional information was immediately available. The names and conditions of the injured were not available.
