Woman and her dog found dead in Pomona senior living community

A 58-year-old woman and her small dog were killed in a gated senior living community in Pomona and their bodies discovered early Monday in what police are investigating as a homicide.

Los Angeles County firefighters went to Ronny Wall’s home on Bonita Avenue about 6 a.m. to investigate an activated fire alarm. Upon entering, they found Wall, who was pronounced dead.

Detectives initially investigated Wall’s death as a suspicious.

During the Los Angeles County coroner’s office investigation, they found that Wall had been stabbed and physically assaulted.

A fire had also been started within the apartment, which set off the alarm. No arrests have been made, and authorities have said anyone with information should contact the Pomona Police Department.

Wall lived on the third floor of the gated senior living community.

Neighbors told KTLA that they often saw Wall walking her dog or at the community’s mailbox. They also said they were surprised about the violence in a normally safe community.

Wall’s death is the fifth homicide in Pomona this year.

At least 20 people were killed in Pomona in the last 12 months, including two people killed within a mile of the senior living community where Wall lived, according to a Times analysis.

“As the seasons change, we unfortunately anticipate more [criminal] activity in the city, just based off previous years and trends,” said Aly Mejia, Pomona Police Department spokeswoman.
