All aglow over the 6th Street Bridge

Last Saturday, Alon Goldsmith attended the 6th Street Bridge’s Farewell Festival, at which hundreds gathered to mark the closing of the 3,500-foot concrete bridge that connects downtown L.A.’s Arts District with Boyle Heights. (The iconic L.A. landmark is to be torn down next year because a chemical reaction is threatening to destabilize it.)

As one of the musical bands finished their set, Goldsmith noticed a “glow” backlighting the throngs of people on the bridge. “I made my way through the crowd, to the south side of the bridge, where this scene was playing out on the horizon,” he said.

According to Goldsmith, the blimp pictured in the image was there because of a neighboring football game at the Coliseum.
