Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Bill Walsh, July 30 Bill Walsh, known in football circles as "The Genius" for taking the San Francisco 49ers to three NFL championships and designing the "West Coast offense," died on July 30 at 75 after a long battle with leukemia. Cerebral, introspective and innovative, the Pro Football Hall of Famer had an uncanny eye for scouting players and designing refined game plans. His offensive scheme fueled a dynasty in San Francisco with Super Bowl victories after the 1981, '84 and '88 seasons.
