Gov. Jerry Brown keeps collecting campaign donations
SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown’s campaign account continues to swell with new donations, even though he hasn’t officially said whether he’ll run for reelection next year.
A new report filed with the state by his campaign committee shows money flowing in from celebrities, actors and business leaders.
Brown’s donors include former NBA star Magic Johnson, who contributed $54,400, the maximum amount allowed by law. Larry Flynt, publisher of Hustler magazine, pitched in the same amount.
Another $54,400 came from Eli Broad, the Los Angeles philanthropist who was revealed as one of the donors to a political organization that opposed Brown’s tax-hike campaign last year.
Actors Jack Black and Kirk Douglas gave Brown $5,000 each.
Billionaire developer Rick Caruso gave the maximum amount, $54,400.
Some of Brown’s money was collected during last week’s fundraiser at the Bel-Air home of Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios.
The event was co-chaired by a collection of Hollywood power players, including David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg.
