The duel between Republican gubernatorial candidates Tim Donnelly and Neel Kashkari has spawned a campaign finance complaint.

The complaint, which a Kashkari supporter said he filed at the behest of the former U.S. Treasury official’s campaign, accuses Donnelly of failing to report an RV as a political contribution.

Donnelly, a state assemblyman from Twin Peaks, near Lake Arrowhead, has used the RV to campaign around the state.

The complaint was sent to the Fair Political Practices Commission by Tom Scott, a government affairs consultant active in Republican Party politics.

Scott said Kashkari’s campaign raised the RV issue with him and asked if he would file on it.

“I thought they raised some very valid questions,” he said. “If you’re running for governor, you have to play by the rules.”

The complaint includes other items as well. Purchases made at Knott’s Berry Farm were listed as office expenses even though, the complaint says, “Knott’s Berry Farm is not an office supply store.”

Asked why the Kashkari campaign raised the issue, senior advisor Aaron McLear issued a statement saying, “Sacramento’s culture of crime and corruption is bad enough without Tim Donnelly adding to his already lengthy rap sheet. Voters are tired of career politicians who don’t think the rules apply to them.”

A representative from the Donnelly campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did a spokesman from the Fair Political Practices Commission.
