Lindsey Thiry, who has been blogging on USC football for The Times, is joining the staff as a general assignment reporter focused on multimedia storytelling.

In her new role, Thiry will use her reporting skills and her expertise in video, both in front of the camera and behind it, to enhance The Times’ coverage of baseball, basketball, football and other beats.

Thiry has been a sideline reporter for Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports West and has written for Scout.com, where she became an authority on USC football and college recruiting. She has been a contributor to The Times for two years.

Last fall, she teamed with Times reporter Nathan Fenno on an investigation of former USC football coach Steve Sarkisian’s tenure at the University of Washington – notably the bar tabs he ran up at taxpayer expense.

Last month, Thiry was honored as a top 3 finalist in the annual Associated Press Sports Editors contest for a video package she created about college football players and their tattoos.

Thiry is from Seattle and played on a national champion women’s volleyball team at the University of Washington.
