Pedro Moura to cover Angels for L.A. Times

Share

Pedro Moura (@pedromoura), an enterprising reporter and vivid writer, is joining The Times as the Angels beat writer.

For the past three seasons, Moura has covered the Angels and Dodgers for the Orange County Register. He has excelled at finding compelling stories that go beyond the box scores. OC Weekly named him Best Reporter of 2015 and called him a “rising star” in sports journalism.

“He works his clubhouse and front-office sources as if a vet; writes crisp, lucid prose; and can pop off the occasional righteous column,” the Weekly wrote. “His prize catch this year was getting an Angels executive to admit he prefers rich fans to poor ones.” The executive resigned in the ensuing uproar.

Before joining the Register, Moura spent two years at ESPN.com, where he covered USC and the Clippers.

Moura is a native of Santa Clarita and a graduate of USC. He speaks Portuguese and conversational Spanish.

On the Angels beat, Moura is taking the baton from one of the best: Mike DiGiovanna.

DiGiovanna’s amazing run as Angels beat writer has spanned 20 years and, outside of two seasons covering the Dodgers in 2002 and 2003, he has been front and center on every major Angels story, setting a standard for excellence and professionalism.

DiGiovanna will continue to contribute to our coverage of the Dodgers and Angels, and will complement our reporting on L.A’s new-old pro football team, the Rams, once the NFL season starts.
