Get up and get out: September is a busy month

Share

The sun is setting on summer, but not on cool events coming to San Diego. In fact, September just might be the busiest month we’ve seen this season.

The month is bookended by Labor Day weekend and the kickoff of Oktoberfest events. There’s the high-flying Miramar Air Show, a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb fundraiser, Indie Fest and Cardiff Greek Festival to name a few.

For the athletic types out there, the Rock the Bay San Diego Triathlon and Ironman 70.3 Superfrog go down on the same day in mid-September. And, with news breaking over the summer about LeBron James signing with the Lakers, the team plays its first preseason game right here in San Diego against the Denver Nuggets.

Nobody ever said this was a boring town — and if they did, well, clearly they were wrong.

But no mention of great September San Diego events would be complete without mentioning the most noteworthy of them all: KAABOO and, of course, the cover girl herself, Beyoncé (who will perform here with hubby Jay-Z).

If you have never been to KAABOO, it’s unlike any other festival I’ve attended. The combination of music, art, comedy and food makes for a sensory overload of the best kind. Every one of your five senses is awakened during the three-day event, which goes down Sept. 14-16 this year. After listening to your favorite musicians (hearing), stop by the Palate area to smell (yeah, that’s a sense) what’s cooking before enjoying a bite and a swig (taste), or watch (sight) artists create live works of art around the San Diego Fairgrounds before catching a set of comedy where you’ll ROTFL (touch). Read more about the annual mixperience festival, including its headliners, here.

And Beyoncé. What can be said about Beyoncé that hasn’t already been said before? The woman commands attention and gets it from all corners of the world. She has, after all, a collective 194,723,667 followers across three major social media platforms (and who knows how many more since those numbers were first totaled before writing this letter). Queen Bey, as she is affectionately known, will take to the stage here at SDCCU Stadium (formerly Qualcomm) with her powerhouse husband, Jay-Z, who graced PACIFIC’s cover just this past December. Read more about the pair and their OTRII tour here.

So, what will you get up to this month, San Diego? I sure hope it won’t be sitting around on your couch — unless, of course, it’s because you’re exhausted from having fun at all these cool events.

Cheers,

Leslie Hackett
