Marlins infield coach Perry Hill has been putting in overtime given the Marlins fluid situation at third base this season.
During the spring the focus was on trying to get
ready to take the starting job.
While Dominguez's defense was solid, his offensive foes forced the Marlins to send him to the minors and go into the season with a rotation of Donnie Murphy and
That changed with Bonifacio went to left field when
was placed on the disabled list April 21 and Murphy was benched when his batting average fell to .105. Murphy was placed on the disabled list Monday.
Now the Marlins are going with Greg Dobbs and
, who started the season as pinch-hitting specialists.
"Kind of interchangeable parts," Hill said about the third base situation. "[Manager
] writes up the lineup and I make sure they are prepared."
Dobbs, who made his 15th start at third Thursday, credits Hill with helping him get ready for his role.
"Nothing comes without hard work. Hill has been instrumental in that. I have to give a lot of credit to him to getting to where I am defensively," said Dobbs, who has not made an error in his 15 games at third.
"They all have good work ethic, so it's not that big a deal. They are not opposed to coming out early and getting their work in," Hill said. "Going in we didn't know what was going to happen, but it has turned out pretty well."
