Bethlehem is known for Musikfest in August, Celtic Classic in September and Christkindlmarkt in December. Just Born makes its famous marshmallow Peeps here, too. Shopping along Main Street and dining along "Restaurant Row" are highlights. The city's Southside features eclectic restaurants, shops and art galleries and the campus of Lehigh University.
A LITTLE HISTORY
Often referred to as "Christmas City," Bethlehem began as a settlement of members of the Moravian Church on the banks of the Lehigh River near the Monocacy Creek in 1741. From humble beginnings as a Moravian settlement to its modern status, Bethlehem has preserved its past. Today the Moravian influence remains strong, but many more traditions have joined in making the city a "melting pot" of cultures.
