In 2008, Rendell said he'd be interested in serving as Transportation Secretary in the Obama White House but Obama picked a dark horse in then-Republican congressman LaHood.
LaHood sent an email to federal transportation employees nationwide Tuesday to inform them he wasn't staying on for Obama's second term, according to a press release from the department.
Rendell was asked recently during a Dec. 2012 panel discussion in Washington if he'd want the job now, but Rendell expertly sidestepped. He said vaguely that he'd be "more effective arguing from the outside than inside." He then pivoted to praise LaHood on a job well done.
But he never said he didn't want it.
