Joel Spira, a Coopersburg resident, is the founder of Lutron Electronics and the inventor of the dimmer switch. Spira, chairman and CEO of Lutron, is an inventor credited with 102 U.S. patents. His invention of a solid-state residential dimmer in 1959 led to the founding of Lutron in 1961. Its grown to become one of the world's leading lighting control companies.
