Freemansburg police officer Robert A. Lasso, 31, was shot and killed in the line of duty on Thursday August 11, 2011, while responding to a disturbance call in the borough. Officer Lasso's family read a statement and spoke with reporters at his fathers home in Freemansburg on Friday. Officer Lasso was the second local area policeman killed in the line of duty in the last two years. State Trooper Joshua Miller was killed after a 40 mile chase in Monroe County, June 2010 while trying to apprehend a subject wanted for a kidnapping in Nazareth.
