( EMILY ROBSON / THE MORNING CALL ) Lauren Rabin of South Whitehall sits in her living room with her two children, Aron, 4, and Golda, 2. Aron has an allergy to tree nuts and fin fish. They learned about his nut allergy after he went into anaphylactic shock when they let him eat banana bread with walnuts at the Miami International Airport on their way home from vacation. There are eight foods in the United States that are responsible for the majority of food allergies. They are: peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish and milk. They can trigger an immune system reaction, causing digestive problems, hives and swollen airways. In some people, the reaction can produce a critical response known as anaphylaxis. |
