A police pursuit Thursday morning on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike ended with a fiery crash at the Lehigh Valley service station in South Whitehall Township, police said. According to a witness at the scene, a man and woman apparently attempted to elude police on the southbound turnpike, and the car exited on the onramp to the service plaza, struck the median barrier, went airborne over the guard rail and landed in a ditch just south on the rest stop. The car burst into flames and was still on fire just before 11 a.m., according to witnesses. A man was taken into custody by state police and a woman who appeared to be badly injured, was being tended to by firefighters, witnesses said. A witness said the pursuit reached speeds of more than 130 mph.
