Crews use an excavator to dismantle Youell's Oyster House restaurant at 2249 W. Walnut St. in AllentownTuesday, after firefighters struggled against sub-freezing temperatures to contain the blaze. A passerby reported the fire at 4:17 a.m., and firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the two-story building, Assistant Chief Lee Laubach said. By 1:30 p.m., the restaurant was no more. After hours of spraying the flames, heavy equipment was brought in to completely tear down the structure and extinguish the fire. The 1800s-era building, located in a residential neighborhood just south of Hamilton Street off S. 23rd Street, has served as a restaurant for decades.
