Poblano Med Mex Grill to offer Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine in Lower Macungie

You want falafel. Your friends want tacos. Soon, you'll be able to dine in harmony at a new restaurant in Lower Macungie Township.

Poblano Med Mex Grill, listed as coming soon to a space adjacent to Sleepy’s mattress store in the Shoppes at Trexler on Hamilton Boulevard, will serve both Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine when it holds a soft opening within a few weeks, according to co-owner Manell Saad.

A grand opening celebration, featuring food samples and promotions, will follow later this month or in early March.

“This is something unique to the Lehigh Valley because where else can you get both of these cuisines under one roof?” Saad said.

The 53-seat restaurant's ordering style will be similar to Chipotle, Saad said, with hot and cold bars allowing diners to choose which meat, beans, vegetables and other ingredients they would like included in their dishes.

The Mexican portion of the menu will include beef, chicken and pork burritos, quesadillas and tacos, along with cilantro-lime rice, brown rice, pinto and black beans, among other items, while Mediterranean staples such as beef and chicken kabobs, hummus with homemade pita chips, falafel, arnabit and Jerusalem salad also will be available.

Based on customer demand, offerings will likely grow to include other popular dishes such as shawarma and baba ghanoush, Saad said. Meats and produce will be sourced locally as much as possible.

The 2,400-square-foot space, previously occupied by Payless Rugs, was overhauled to include a new kitchen, epoxied floor and brightly-colored walls.

Saad will be operating the restaurant with her husband Sharif Saad, brother-in-law Jacob Saad and sister-in-law Abby Saad. Both couples live in Lower Macungie Township.
