It's pretty chilly out there, and when it comes to exciting national acts coming through town, the concert schedule hasn't been much warmer. Never fear. There are hot shows on the horizon to keep your ears from freezing off.
Cold War Kids
Looking for a new favorite indie-rock band? Search no more. Cold War Kids deliver a dynamic set of memorable tunes on their debut, "Robbers and Cowards." They rocked Lollapalooza last summer; take this opportunity to see them somewhere, um, just a bit smaller.
Akron/Family recently released "Meek Warrior," but there's nothing meek about their strange brand of folk music. You have two chances to join the Family at Empty Bottle.
You know that song from the Outback commercial? The one that goes, "Let's go Outback tonight "? That's actually an altered version of Of Montreal's "Wraith Pinned to the Mist (And Other Games)." See Kevin Barnes' group playing their real songs, including material from their upcoming record, "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?"
Winter will be over by April, but we can't wait to get even warmer with Christina Aguilera, who's not quite as "Dirrty"--but plenty passionate--on the double-disc "Back to Basics." Can't say we're fans of The Pussycat Dolls or Danity Kane, but they're on hand too.
