Fast-Paised review: ‘Poseidon'

Big question: This update of "The Poseidon Adventure" stars Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell and Emmy Rossum as people fighting to survive after their cruise ship capsizes. With the title trimmed, has "Poseidon" lost its sense of adventure?

Skip it: Even as mindless summer fare, "Poseidon" doesn't deliver much excitement, just a whole lot of splashing. Plot and character sink beneath noisy action sequences that grow increasingly repetitive as we lose interest in the thinly developed passengers.

Catch it if: You want to see Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson of The Black Eyed Peas as a character that is essentially singing cleavage. Shockingly (and thankfully), she does not perform "My Humps."

Bottom line: Water gushes and then gushes some more as passengers die tragically, some of them in violent, "Final Destination"-style fashion. Loud, cheesy and insignificant, "Poseidon" won't be the worst movie of the summer, but it is sure to be the wettest.

Bonus: Kevin Dillon ("Entourage") generates a couple laughs as an obnoxious, unlikable boob named Lucky Larry. Too bad he's quickly swimming with the fishes.
