Hot Tix, anyone?

The Hot Tix service, operated by the League of Chicago Theatres, sells same-day half-price tickets for about 140 city and suburban theaters.

Same-day half-price tickets are sold Tuesday through Sunday at a variety of locations. On Friday, tickets for weekend and Monday shows become available (they become available at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Randolph Street location).

Because the selection changes continuously, a personal visit to a Hot Tix location or a click on their Website, www.hottix.org, will allow you to determine what is available. The Website is updated twice a day. Tickets are not held, guaranteed or purchased via the Internet or telephone. You must visit a location to purchase the tickets.

Visa, MasterCard, American Express are accepted everywhere but at the Tower Records stores, which are cash-only. Hot Tix locations also offer full-price tickets for Ticketmaster events (cash only). For all purchases, there are no exchanges and no refunds and a service charge that varies with ticket price is included.

The League's Hot Tix booths downtown are at 163 E. Pearson St. (the Chicago Waterworks Visitor Center) and 78 W. Randolph St.

There's a North Shore suburban location at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie.

There are also booths at these Tower Records locations: 214 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago; 2301 N. Clark St., Chicago; 383 W. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale; and 1209 E. Golf Rd., Schaumburg.

Hot Tix booth hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; closed Monday.

Hours for the 78 W. Randolph St. location are: 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; closed Monday.

In addition to discounted theater tickets, Hot Tix also offers Play Money, gift certificates in $25 demoninations, that can be used toward the purchase of future Hot Tix discounted tickets or full-price theater tickets.
