Tom Daschle, President Obama's choice for secretary of Health and Human Services, was forced to withdraw after reports that he had failed to declare a car and driver as income. Daschle, a former U.S. senator from South Dakota and majority leader, paid the taxes with interest. He had been expected to serve a dual role, with a second job as director of the White House Office of Health Reform.
