A student was shot and injured Monday at a Delaware State University residence hall, and the attacker is at large, officials said.

The shooting occurred after 4 p.m. Eastern time in the parking lot of the school’s Living and Learning Commons building, a former Sheraton hotel near the campus, university spokesman Carlos Holmes told the Los Angeles Times.

The victim, a male student, had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Holmes said. A suspect has not been identified, he said.

The campus went on lockdown after the shooting. The lockdown was lifted about 7:15 p.m., after “police determined that the threat no longer existed,” Holmes said.

Dover Police Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the shooting “appears to be an isolated incident.”

Campus police are in charge of the case, with assistance from the Dover Police Department, Hoffman said. The campus police spokesman did not return multiple calls seeking comment.
