Two hospitalized after stabbing near New York’s Times Square

With people crowding Times Square to celebrate the closing hours of 2013, two people were hospitalized after an apparent stabbing in a bathroom at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan on Tuesday evening, officials and witnesses said.

The two victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, a New York Fire Department spokesman told the Los Angeles Times.

The fire department received a call at 8:43 p.m.

Christian Bonilla, 18, of the Bronx told the New York Daily News that the stabbing happened after a fight in a bathroom.

Natasha Morales, 28, of Manhattan told the Daily News that a family friend, whom she also referred to as her uncle, got stabbed when he tried to break up the fight. He came out of the bathroom with blood on his face and neck, she said.

One witness said on social media that people were hiding in a women’s bathroom after the stabbing.

Joseph Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, told the New York Times that officials were searching for a male suspect. Pentangelo said the suspect apparently new the victims.
