Vice President Joseph Biden is collecting at least $500,000 from two fundraisers being held in Chicago today for the re-election of hometown President Barack Obama, sources familiar with the events said.
The first event, a reception at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers, has ticket prices beginning at $500 per person and about 200 people were expected to attend, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to speak for the campaign.
A second event, a fundraising dinner at the home of Rajiv Fernando, a financial executive, is expected to draw about 40 people, with ticket prices starting at $10,000 per person, the sources said.
Both fundraisers benefit the Obama Victory Fund, a joint effort of Obama's re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
Biden traveled to Chicago after an earlier stop in Ohio, where he touted provisions of Obama's proposed job-creation plan and other attempts to encourage hiring by small businesses.
