A Cherry Berry Frozen Yogurt franchise is coming to Aberdeen in February, said Ken Peterson, development agent for Cherry Berry in South Dakota and Illinois by phone this morning.
The shop will be on Sixth Avenue Southeast and South State Street west of Kessler's in the former CorTrust Bank building, he said.
In a column in the American News in today's paper, it was reported that the Cherry Berry coming to Aberdeen was probably a rumor. Calls to Cherry Berry headquarters had previously gone unreturned.
Peterson said the franchise is definitely coming to Aberdeen and plans will be filed with the Aberdeen Planning and Zoning Office sometime early next week.
Cherry Berry, with headquarters in Broken Arrow, Okla., has nine franchises in South Dakota and will soon have 12, he said. A franchise was recently opened in Sioux Falls.
One of the future locations is in Mission where a license for a franchise has been sold, he said.
Cherry Berry Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt has more than 50 premium yogurt flavors offered on a rotating basis and more than 50 toppings. Customers serve themselves and then pay for their dish of yogurt by weight. The company's slogan is "Best on the Planet."
Cherry Berry will be the second frozen yogurt shop opening on Sixth Avenue in the next few months. An Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt shop will open mid-December in the Lamont Building on Sixth Avenue Southeast.
