HURON, S.D. (AP) — Officials expect a record-breaking crowd at this year's South Dakota State Fair.
Manager Jerome Hertel tells The Argus Leader newspaper (http://bit.ly/ojzhdT ) that the weather was hot on Thursday's opening day but attendance seemed to be on par with last year's opening day. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a cool-down over the weekend, with highs only in the mid-60s to mid-70s.
Officials expect attendance over the fair's five-day run in Huron to surpass last year's record of 177,700 people. Hertel says attendance has increased 33 percent since 2006.
