Musicians as young as 5 will perform Sunday at a Strings Student Recital at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center.
The concert begins at 2:15 p.m. in the ARCC’s Eagles Nest.
Music will be performed by students, along with community members from Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Students in the recital are enrolled in the ARCC’s Community School of Music Strings Program under the leadership of Nancy Ohnstad.
Participants in the ensemble concert include Vicki Scepaniak, Cathy Allred, Karen Mikkelson and Jamaica Briscoe playing harp; Forrest Allred on cello, Josh Kimball on cello and violin; violist Elizabeth Wensmann and violinists Ali Mueller, Hannah Rovang, Jonathon Mitzel, Emily and John Schwab, Drew and Reese Comstock, Hannah Walberg, Priscilla Hamilton, Emily Engelhart and Molly Hanse. Ohnstad is the director, with assistance from Bob Ohnstad.
Selections from the recital include the “Orange Blossom Special,” “Rag-a-Muffin Mambo,” “Nanigo,” “Sweet Betsy from Pike” and “El Choclo.” Five harpists will play “Arabian Dance,” “Water Of Tyne,” “Morning Has Broken” and “Chante Arab.” All violin, viola, cello and harp students will play together on the last Irish piece — “Rose of Oranmore.”
