  Steve Harvey
Only in L.A.

Steve Harvey has spent much of his life writing about his native Los Angeles. Through news articles, columns, sports coverage and commentary, he has been a familiar observer for more than 30 years.

His tenure with The Times includes six years as a writer in the Opinion section and 16 years as a local reporter before he became a columnist in 1990. He also served as a commentator for National Public Radio from 1981 to 1990, and worked for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner from 1964 to 1967.

His column, "Only in L.A.," highlights the quirkier side of life in Los Angeles. A collection of the columns were put into a 1996 book, "The Best of Only in L.A.," published by Los Angeles Times Syndicate. He also wrote a chapter in the 1979 book "Great Baseball Stories," edited by Jerry Lewis.

Harvey received a journalism degree from the University of Southern California in 1967.

He and his wife have two children.
