Eurail passes turn back the clock -- and the prices

Share

Rail Europe is marking the 50th anniversary of its famed Eurail pass by rolling back prices to 1959 levels. But move fast: Savings are substantial and supplies are limited. A five-day, three-country pass will go for $125, which is more than 70% off the usual $442 price. The three countries must border one another, and travel must take place over a two-month period. The 1959 price promotion on www.raileurope.com will begin at 9 a.m. PDT Tuesday, while supplies last. The passes themselves are iconic to European travel. Generations of American college students have used them for backpacking across the continent during summer breaks or on post-college excursions.

Hard to believe there’s more to the Cayman Islands this summer than beautiful beaches, scuba diving and offshore banking. Skate Cayman, a summer skate camp, will be in session June 8 through Aug. 21 at the Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park, which is the second-largest skate park in the world. Special guests will include Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, as well as pro skateboarders Bucky Lasek and Brian Sumner. Hands-on instruction will be provided to campers ages 4 to 18, who can carve their days away on the 60,000 square feet of concrete. Cost: $63 daily, or $282 per week. Info: www.skatecayman.com

Sugar rush

There are miles of galleries to tramp through at Paris’ Louvre Museum -- enough to make anyone need a serious sugar boost. Enter a branch of the La Maison du Chocolat, a chocolate boutique that opened in the museum’s underground shopping center known as the Carrousel du Louvre. La Maison was founded in 1955 by Robert Linxe, a chocolate master who apprenticed in Switzerland and opened his first store on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore and soon became famous for chocolate confections known as ganaches -- especially the Zagora, infused with fresh mint leaves. Now there are branches in London, New York, Tokyo and Cannes, France -- not to mention six in Paris. And for dedicated museum-goers, a ganache is guaranteed to make you see the “Winged Victory” with fresh eyes. Info: www.lamaisonduchocolat.com/en
