MESA, Ariz. (AP)—Chicago Cubs right-hander Angel Guzman is out indefinitely because of a torn ligament in his pitching shoulder. GM Jim Hendry said Saturday that there was no time frame for Guzman's return.
Guzman, 28, appeared in 55 games last season, going 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA. It was the best year for Guzman, who has had arm problems for most of his 11 seasons in the organization.
The Cubs were hoping he could be the top righty setup man for closer Carlos Marmol. Hendry has been looking for bullpen help but said there isn't much available now.
