GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (FOX 17)—Larry Parrish, a major league all-star for Montreal and Texas, is the new manager of the West Michigan Whitecaps, the team announced Tuesday.
Parrish has all-star seasons with the Montreal Expos in 1979 and the Texas Rangers in 1987.
He comes to Grand Rapids with years of minor league coaching and Detroit Tigers coaching under his belt. He spent a short stint as manager of the Tigers from mid-1998 into 1999, with an 82-104 record. His minor league experience was earned at Class A Niagara Falls, Class AA Jacksonville, and Class AAA Toledo, leading the Mud Hens to championships in 2005 and 2006.
Parrish's last stop was as hitting coach with the Atlanta Braves in 2011.
