The Grand Rapids Triathlon will welcome athletes to West Michigan on Sunday.

The event is a USAT sanctioned Sprint, Olympic and Half event that will take place in Ada.

The swimming portion of the event takes place in the Thornapple River, and there will be multiple waves for athletes, depending on distance and race age.

Everyone who finishes will be awarded a finisher's medal, and the people who place first, second and third overall receive cash prizes. The Sprint and Olympic winners receive $300, while the 1/2 Iron winner receives $500.

Athletes can pick up their packets on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fox Ford, on 28th Street SE in Grand Rapids.

The races start at 7:15 a.m. on Sunday. Road closures begin, though, at 4 a.m.

They are still looking for volunteers, and if you are interested you can sign up online.
