STIMULUS MONEY TO HELP PRESERVE MICHIGAN FORESTS
LANSING (AP) - Michigan is getting $9.5 million in federal stimulus money to help preserve habitat and undertake other projects in forests.
Some of the money will be used to train and hire Michigan crews to fight wildfires. Other crews will be assembled to survey land and remove trees from crowded forests to decrease the risk of fire.
The project also is expected to improve the Michigan habitat used by the Kirtland's warbler. The tiny songbirds were found in a dozen Lower Peninsula counties during a 2008 survey.
The stimulus announcement was posted on Michigan's recovery act web page Tuesday.
