Taking note of Rick DeVos and his idea of holding an art competition where the public uses new media to vote (ArtPrize), Men's Journal calls Grand Rapids a city where crazy ideas can take root.
As part of it's "Best Places To Live 2011" issue, the magazine featured Grand Rapids under the tag "Take A Chance On A Crazy Idea."
The short feature also mentioned that Grand Rapids has the largest number of LEED-certified green buildings, has a thriving restaurant and brewing scene, and is home to a noted "culinary institute," which is located at Grand Rapids Community College (the school was not mentioned by name).
The recognition is a contrast to a recent online Newsweek article that listed Grand Rapids as among the nation's "dying" cities. Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell sent a letter to the magazine's publishers taking exception to the label and inviting them to come see the place for themselves.
