Cities throughout the Imperial Valley will be celebrating National Day of Prayer today and are inviting all community members to join in on the food and celebration.
Several events are scheduled throughout the day beginning with a breakfast at the community center at Naval Air Facility El Centro and Ryerson Hall at 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m., respectively.
Imperial County National Day of Prayer task force coordinator Nancy Fields said all of today’s events are centered on the same idea.
“We think that it’s important to pray for our county and those in authority,” Fields said. “There is something special about praying with other people and getting out of the walls of our own churches and praying together.”
The Task Force is hosting its evening concert of prayer at Christ Community Church in El Centro and will have shuttles to accommodate the large amount of people expected to attend, Fields said.
“We usually get between 600 and 700 people,” Fields said.
A total of five pastors will be leading prayers during the event and reading different scriptures, Fields said.
“Everyone is welcome to come and pray and be a part of the event,” she said.
