Another local political figure may throw her hat in the ring for the area’s congressional seat.
Former state Sen. Denise Moreno Ducheny told the San Diego Union-Tribune earlier this week that she is thinking about running for Congress now that her Imperial Beach home will be drawn into the congressional district that runs along the border. The districts are expected to be finalized by the state redistricting commission Aug. 15.
Ducheny served six years in the state Assembly and eight in the Senate, representing San Diego and Imperial County. She termed out in 2010, and Sen. Juan Vargas won the election.
Vargas announced earlier this year that he plans to run for Congress as current Rep. Bob Filner said he plans to run for San Diego mayor.
Ducheny told the Union-Tribune she would like to work on border issues like better cooperation, improved crossing and pushing for immigration reform, along with budget issues.
