HOLTVILLE — An Imperial man suspected of riding his motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol fractured his left leg Monday when he veered into a dirt irrigation ditch, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
The man, James M. Hatfield, 44, was riding his 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Townsend Road at an unknown rate of speed, Highway Patrol Officer Jose Serrano said.
Hatfield failed, because “of his intoxicated state,” Serrano wrote, to notice an area of deep tire ruts, or grooves, in the dirt that was directly in his path of travel.
Hatfield was unable to safely ride around the ruts and allowed his motorcycle to veer off to the left side of the road and into the ditch, Serrano said.
It was determined Hatfield was under the influence of alcohol and placed under arrest. Hatfield was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center for injury that was described as major. The incident occurred west of Highway 115.
