The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of California, announced Thursday that Rep. Bob Filner, D-Chula Vista, will be the first recipient of its Outstanding Service Recognition Award.
The award will be presented to Filner during the joint opening ceremony of the 92nd VFW Department of California State Convention on June 16 in Sacramento, according to a press release from the veterans group.
“For over two decades, Congressman Filner has worked determinedly to provide our veterans with the benefits that they have earned and deserve,” said Bobby Price, VFW, Department of California state commander, in the prepared statement. “Congressman Filner understands that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have created hundreds of thousands of veterans and it is this nation’s duty to care for them when they return. The VFW presents this award to him in recognition of the millions of veterans’ lives he has impacted thanks to his dedication and service.”
